Experimental project in the research group of Professor Christopher Foot in the Sub-Department of Atomic and Laser Physics. The project involves developing techniques used for direct quantum simulation using cold atoms in optical lattices, in particular using rotating two-dimensional lattices to create ‘artificial’ magnetic fields. The work is supported by the UK Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) through the EuroQUAM programme Duration - 12 months in the first instance.

Background - good degree in Physics and the ability to work in a small team.

Involves day-to-day supervision of graduate students.

Experience in laser cooling and dipole-force trapping techniques will be an advantage.
