Being unsure about where you stand, how you feel, what you want and need, and going through life thinking, “Well, um, uh, I think, maybe, I’m not sure……” is a major contributor to self-created stress. There are enough inherent obstacles in life without this uncertainty, and we need the power of our convictions to navigate through them. more »

As a society, we seem to be "easily bothered." Many of us are "chronically bothered" by things that are simply counter-productive for us to be focusing on. Asking yourself "what is it costing me?" is a powerful question because it gives you the wisdom to understand, on a deep level, that "it’s just not worth it." more »

A sudden wake-up call is any event that immediately causes an epiphany in your life. It could be an accident, a close call, a health scare, or anything that shakes you out of your comfort zone and reminds you that life is fragile and temporary. The perspective shift that a sudden wake-up call provides sharpens the focus on the lens through which we view life. For example, you may believe that you have a lot of problems, and things aren’t going they way you would like. Then, all of a sudden, something can happen to you that makes you say, "I wish I didn’t waste so much of my energy on those problems for all of that time, because now I see, in the grand scheme of things, they’re really not that important." In fact, after a wake-up call, you may long for a return back to the way things used to be! Most of the time, a sudden wake-up call will cause you to re-evaluate your life, what is truly important, what is trivial, and what you’ve been overlooking and taking for granted. more »

I’ve traditionally been an expert at creating my own stress. Simply said, self-created stress is making things worse than they have to be. Blowing things out of proportion, jumping to conclusions, imagining worse case scenarios, overanalyzing, and wasting energy on things that are counterproductive are just a few examples of self-created stress. I’m not saying that there aren’t big things and real problems in life to stress over. Coping with a tragedy, suffering a loss, having a sick family member or experiencing a financial crisis are all things that rightfully deserve our concern. But do you ever notice that with the major events, or the life altering experiences, we show amazing courage and grace? We ask for help and reach out to our support systems, and most of the time we get that support and we persevere. But what makes our day-to-day lives less fulfilling than they can be, and eats away at us and the quality of our lives is making big things out of things that really are small and creating stress out of ordinary life events. If you could just eliminate this self-created stress, wouldn’t that increase the quality of your life tremendously? more »

Sadly, many people keep themselves going and going in a vain attempt to reach a place that doesn’t exist. That place is being completely finished with nothing else left to do. The reason why many people have trouble sleeping is that even though they are physically in bed, mentally they are still not done, and thoughts of the things still left to do are regurgitating in their mind. Balanced people accept the fact that they will never be completely caught up and don’t get themselves all frazzled and worked up trying. more »

Many of us are lucky enough to know people who radiate positive energy; friends with whom you feel restored to inner health; colleagues who leave you feeling good about yourself. These “Energy Angels” give freely of their time and talents, without giving away themselves. (People who give, give, give to the point where they secretly resent it are not Energy Angels.) more »

How are your personal energy levels right now? Is your energy clean and flowing, or stuck and stagnant? Personal Energy Sinks & Traps or “PESTs” show up in all our lives. PESTs drain your personal energy, sap your enthusiasm and zap your zest. The symptoms range from feeling "a bit below par", to chronic stress and tiredness.

Have you noticed how "joined-up" has become the new 'must-have'? We're encouraged to do 'joined-up thinking' and provide 'joined-up services'. We buy integrated ovens and integrated systems. Have you ever had times when everything feels like a drag and you hate to get up in the morning, get dressed, go to work, do whatever you have to, run your errands, take care of children, do housekeeping, and so on and so forth? It doesn’t help if it is a lovely sunny day, you feel gray and cloudy. You feel so bad that you don’t even want to feel better. You may also be so stressed you can’t even think straight. Your mind spins; you are not in control. more »

Stewed frog - you’ll probably have heard the story about how a frog that falls into boiling water will hop straight out again, but one that sits in cold water that gradually heats up, won’t notice and will eventually be stewed! Now I’m not sure how accurate that story is, but I do know that it can be very easy to ignore stress until eventually you burn yourself out. Or, less dramatically, to simply get used to feeling run down, tired and out of sorts much of the time. So…think about the last time you felt GREAT? Remember? And what feels normal for you these days? So what do you need to do to get more GREAT in your life? more »

All of us are in need of healing. Perhaps we are mourning the loss of a relationship, or a loss of a loved one (animal or human). Or the loss of our health. Or the loss of a job, or status. Or the loss of a belief, or trust, or faith. Or peace of mind. Any loss will put us in a state of uneasiness or dis-ease.
Dis-ease as the name says is the lack of ease or the absence of well-being, to be more accurate. When we lose our well-being, in any which form it comes, physically, emotionally, psychologically, or spiritually, we grieve. There is loss and we grieve this loss. more »

Ever noticed that the happier a person is the luckier he or she is as well? They find money on the street, not just pennies; opportunities abound; doors open up for them; they have lots of friends and a great family; they love their occupation; their health is just perfect; they enjoy life; they laugh easily; they have energy, they are vibrant. When you see a happy person you cannot but notice that this person has everything, and more. more »

I remember when I used to travel to school I would practice my smile, trying to get it just right so that I didn’t look false or silly. My parents told me that people would like you if you smile as it makes them feel good. But it made me feel good too, and enabled me to have a positive outlook through my school years. What I didn’t realise was that I was empowering my immune system. more »
