Research findings show that today’s fathers are spending more time with their new children, but financial and other barriers are preventing many low-income families from sharing care. New research, Dads and the Babies: a household analysis reveals that the vast majority of fathers are now taking at least two weeks leave around the birth of their child, especially in high income families, but some lower income men still face barriers. The EOC is calling on the Government to implement the new right to Additional Paternity Leave that will enable fathers to take up to 26 weeks leave and statutory pay if the child’s mother returns to work before her maternity leave and pay has expired.
