Science Night General Information

Take part in hands-on workshops, lively demonstrations and trails based on our galleries and exhibitions. Explore scientific themes, get a new perspective on science, and see the Museum as it has never been seen before. This will be a night to remember so don't forget your sleeping bag!

Who, when, how?

Science Nights are open to all children aged between 8 - 11 years and are available on a first come first served basis. Each night caters for a maximum of 380 children, so book now to avoid disappointment. Bookings can only be accepted from groups of five to nine children accompanied by at least one adult aged over 18 years. Please go to www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/visitors/scibook.asp for more information.

We are keen to promote participation by children with special needs - you can bring an additional adult if a child requires extra help. Science Night also has a Special Educational Needs Co-coordinator to give help and advice.

Because of the number of booking forms returned we would advise that you do not promise children that they are going to a Science Night until you have received written confirmation that your application has been successful!

Each season of Science Nights has a theme - Light Fantastic, Stars and Space, Forces and Motion, Material World, Shapes and Patterns- to find out the theme and dates of the next available night please call the Science Night Information Line (24 hour ansaphone) on 0207 942 4747. Alternatively, you can e-mail us on science.night@nmsi.ac.uk

You will need to bring a sleeping bag, your wash bag and a packed evening snack - perhaps a pillow and your favourite cuddly toy!

Science Night is open to everyone. We welcome the participation of both girls and boys and we actively encourage individuals with special education needs to come to a night and join the fun.

Cost: £30 per child and £30 per adult. Price includes:

  • Experienced staff
  • Materials for hands-on workshops
  • Breakfast
  • IMAX®

Please contact the Science Night Assistant on 0207 942 4909 for further details.

The Science Night Bursary Fund supported by the Brink Bursary Fund offers children from social priority areas and children with special needs the chance to attend a Science Night at a discounted rate. If you think you might qualify for Bursary Fund places please contact the Science Night Assistant on 0207 942 4909 for further details

Welcome to Mums in Science

This site has been designed as a portal for busy mums who work or have worked in science.

Too many women leave science due to the constraints of motherhood. Some struggle, and work part time, at the expense of advancing their career. Others change their career to fit in with their children, whilst working within some area of science.

Our aims are :-

  • to create a community to provide mutual support,
  • to provide information to those who have the challenge of bringing up children and maintaining a career in science, whether full or part time, or outside mainstream science.

This site is updated regularly with new articles and occasional special offers. Everything is accessible on the site. However, if you would like to receive notices of new additions to the site you can subscribe to the site and receive e-mails as soon as a new article is posted to your selected categories or to all the site.

We welcome comments about MumsinScience, what you like, what you don't like, or how we can improve.

PLEASE LET US KNOW, just email comments@mumsinscience.net
