Based in
the Oral Biology labs of the School of Dental Sciences you will be part of a
research group interested in the immunobiology of periodontal disease. The project involves investigating myeloid
cell responses to LPS from periodontal pathogens and the role of
pro-inflammatory cytokines including novel members of the IL-1 family. The ideal candidate will be a biological
scientist with experience in cellular immunology and the enthusiasm and drive
to contribute to grant applications and research supervision. You will have
substantial experience in cell and molecular biological techniques relevant to
immunological research. Experience of myeloid cell culture would be a
particular advantage. You will also be expected to supervise undergraduate and
postgraduate students in the lab.
The project
is jointly supervised by Dr Philip Preshaw and Dr John Taylor and is funded by the
Department of Health as part of a Clinician Scientist Award to Dr Preshaw. The position is funded for 3 years on the
RA1A scale (starting salary up to £24,352 point 8) and is available from April
1st 2006.
