The Biotechnology and Biological Science Research Council (BBSRC) funds basic and strategic biological research, supports postgraduate training, promotes knowledge transfer and public awareness and discussion about the issues surrounding the research we fund.

We are looking to appoint high calibre, committed individuals to fill vacancies on the Bioscience for Society Strategy Panel. The remit of the Panel is to advise the BBSRC's Strategy Board on social and ethical issues surrounding the research the BBSRC funds and to guide the BBSRC's public engagement programme.

All applicants are expected to have an interest in research or research outputs relevant to the remit of the BBSRC and the Panel. We are currently looking for representatives from civil society groups and those with expertise in bioethics, public engagement with science, social science or science education to fill current and future vacancies. Applicants should have experience of being able to contribute constructively to discussions and debate at the strategic level and to have the ability to make difficult decisions on a number of competing perspectives.

Appointments will commence in January 2007 for one year initially, with anticipated extension for a further two years.

Further details can be found on the BBSRC website <http://www.bbsrc.ac.uk/> .

The closing date for applications is Friday 30th June 2006.
