In collaboration with Stiefel, a specialised pharmaceutical company with a focus on the advancement of dermatology and skin care around the world.

 

Title: Targeting the cause of Psoriasis; development of assays that identify anti-inflammatory properties and mechanisms of anti-psoriatic drugs

 

PhD studentship

 

Applications are invited from self-motivated graduates (min 2:1 Hons in a Bioscience discipline) to look at the role of inflammation in the cause of psoriasis and to develop bioassays that define the anti-inflammatory mode of action of anti-psoriatic drugs; enabling a more effective biological evaluation of the next generation of anti-psoriatic drugs produced by Stiefel.

 

A background in immunology would be an advantage.

 

The successful candidate will work in the Applied Immunobiology Research Group with Dr Anne Cunningham and Dr Noel Carter at the University of Sunderland. They will be expected to participate in weekly research meetings and collaborate with a number of Stiefal funded colleagues in the School.

 

 

Bursary: £12-13K / year for 3 years
