9 - 10 Mar 2007, Sheraton Bahrain Hotels & Towers, Bahrain

Women all over the world, in particular in the Gulf States, choose medical and educational professions over science and engineering professions. There are many reasons for the career choices women make, but not enough research is done to articulate these reasons. This workshop will attempt to explore the reasons that drive women away from science and technology, and will focus on ways to educate people about these disciplines. It is recognized that public ignorance contributes to the fear that prevents parents from encouraging their daughters to choose engineering, for example, as a career and prevents these girls from choosing engineering in the first place. Sharing a few success stories can help alleviate these fears and illustrate that women are as capable as men to handle the work and social challenges associated with these professions.
