We have a large science cluster for astronomical data processing and modelling. The majority of the cluster is currently Sun servers and desktops with an increasing number of Opteron and Xeon-based Linux desktops and servers. The computer management team also support a large number of other peripherals including multi-terabyte RAID arrays for large data storage.
The role holder will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) with a broad expertise, so as to provide in depth cover on a wide variety of IT issues, and interface in a helpful and friendly manner with the Institute staff via a Helpdesk.
