Deputy Director of Tolerance Assay required for Immune Tolerance Network

Deputy Director of Tolerance Assay

          and Data Analysis

The Immune Tolerance Network (ITN) is in search of a candidate with demonstrated record in conducting and leading research projects in the area of molecular and cellular immunology for the newly created role of Deputy Director in its Tolerance Assay and Data Analysis (TADA) group.

The Deputy Director of TADA, will be located in the ITN office in Bethesda, MD, and assist the Chief Scientific Officer with all aspects of running the group, including management of a staff of several Ph.D. scientists, design and development of mechanism of action and biomarker studies for clinical trials, analysis and interpretation of data generated from mechanistic studies, collaborative efforts for assay design, development and data interpretation with ITN Principle Investigators and Core Laboratory Directors, and writing and co-writing original research manuscripts for publication submission.

The Deputy Director will be responsible for determining the direction of research projects as they relate to support of ITN clinical trials, including decisions regarding implementation of new technologies, use of existing assays and providing cost assessments for projects.  Assessment of assay costs and negotiations to secure the most efficient and cost effective approaches for mechanistic studies is an integral part of this position.  Finally, the incumbent will be involved in the development of new laboratory or data analysis methods that lead to intellectual property.

 Job Requirements:

A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in immunology with 7-10 years experience in laboratory based science is required.  The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of molecular biology techniques and approaches, an understanding of human studies, in particular clinical trials, familiarity with microarray, PCR and flow cytometry, as well as data analysis tools commonly used in these and other high throughput techniques. Demonstrated experience in managing a large diverse research program is a plus, as well as experience in managing Ph.D. level personnel.  The candidate should be an independent thinker with demonstrated experience in publications and presentations for the broader scientific community.

The Immune Tolerance Network

The Immune Tolerance Network is a National Institutes of Health-funded research consortium designed to advance the clinical application of immune tolerance therapies by evaluating and researching new and improved therapeutic strategies in human disease. The ITN conducts clinical trials and associated studies of the mechanisms of tolerance in kidney, liver and islet transplantation, autoimmune diseases, and asthma & allergic diseases. The ITN is comprised of leading scientific and medical faculty from over 50 institutions in 9 countries worldwide and employs over 60 full-time staff at its headquarters at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and its satellite offices in Bethesda, MD and Pittsburgh. The ITN is currently conducting or planning over 20 clinical trials, each including an array of associated bioassay studies, oversees 10 core bioassay facilities at remote laboratories and is conducting a number of bioassay validation studies.

Welcome to Mums in Science

This site has been designed as a portal for busy mums who work or have worked in science.

Too many women leave science due to the constraints of motherhood. Some struggle, and work part time, at the expense of advancing their career. Others change their career to fit in with their children, whilst working within some area of science.

Our aims are :-

  • to create a community to provide mutual support,
  • to provide information to those who have the challenge of bringing up children and maintaining a career in science, whether full or part time, or outside mainstream science.

This site is updated regularly with new articles and occasional special offers. Everything is accessible on the site. However, if you would like to receive notices of new additions to the site you can subscribe to the site and receive e-mails as soon as a new article is posted to your selected categories or to all the site.

We welcome comments about MumsinScience, what you like, what you don't like, or how we can improve.

PLEASE LET US KNOW, just email comments@mumsinscience.net
