The 2008 AAAS Science Journalism Awards : Call for Entries

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world's largest general scientific society, is accepting entries for the 2008 AAAS Science Journalism Awards. The awards represent the pinnacle of achievement for professional journalists in the science writing field. The awards recognize outstanding reporting for a general audience and honor individuals (rather than institutions, publishers or employers) for their coverage of the sciences, engineering and mathematics.

The international category Children's Science News is open to journalists worldwide for work distributed in any medium -- print, broadcast and online. The prize recognizes excellence in reporting news on science for children, including young teens up to age 14. English-language translations should be provided whenever possible.

The deadline for submissions is August 1, 2008. The contest year is July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008.

Each category winner will receive $3,000, to be presented at an awards reception and ceremony during the AAAS Annual Meeting in February 2009 in Chicago. AAAS will cover travel and lodging expenses to the meeting. More information and the entry form:  www.aaas.org/SJAwards

Welcome to Mums in Science

This site has been designed as a portal for busy mums who work or have worked in science.

Too many women leave science due to the constraints of motherhood. Some struggle, and work part time, at the expense of advancing their career. Others change their career to fit in with their children, whilst working within some area of science.

Our aims are :-

  • to create a community to provide mutual support,
  • to provide information to those who have the challenge of bringing up children and maintaining a career in science, whether full or part time, or outside mainstream science.

This site is updated regularly with new articles and occasional special offers. Everything is accessible on the site. However, if you would like to receive notices of new additions to the site you can subscribe to the site and receive e-mails as soon as a new article is posted to your selected categories or to all the site.

We welcome comments about MumsinScience, what you like, what you don't like, or how we can improve.

PLEASE LET US KNOW, just email comments@mumsinscience.net
