How to Save Money Shopping Online

It can be highly stressful to juggle motherhood with a demanding job. Time is at a premium and each month the monthly pay packet is spread ever more thinly. A little online savvy, however, can reap you rich rewards financially and leave you free to spend more time with your children.

While the Christmas Holidays can be a relief, the cost of spoiling the kids can stretch the budget to breaking point. Bicycles, the latest toys and even laptops for the older children: it seems to get more expensive every year.

The recession may be squeezing our wallets but it is affecting retailers too. They must work harder for our custom. Many high street stores now issue online codes to enter at the checkout for an instant discount. These might be for money off, free delivery (worth as much as £5), free gifts or any number of special offers.

A whole range of useful back-to-school discount codes are gathered together in one handy place at VoucherCodes.co.uk’s Christmas Gifts Page

Among the deals, Argos discount codes, Amazon promo codes and Dell coupons offer some of the best savings.  New offers are being added all the time.

With or without a voucher code, there are sites you should bookmark if you have young children. Bambino Direct, the largest independent nursery stockists in the UK, has dozens of excellent deals. Everyone knows about Mothercare but did you know it offers online exclusive prices and voucher codes?

Savvy online shoppers bookmark sites that offer regular discounts. Don’t buy a Dell laptop from the usual suspects. Go direct to Dell and grab one of their weekly deals for a better price. Another frequent discounter is M&S with its dedicated specials page.

Store newsletters and clubs offer rich pickings. In exchange for some advertising, you can profit from exclusive offers direct to your inbox.

Shopping for food on a budget is a challenge. Supermarkets, keen to attract online shoppers, now offer e-coupons with up to £10 off.  Forget loyalty, it pays to see which supermarket is offering a discount each week and shop there. You can even sign up with a new account to take advantage of new customer deals – although this does mean missing out on loyalty card points.

It can seem too expensive to treat your kids by going out for a meal. Yet there are so many offers, if you know where to look. VoucherCodes.co.uk has hundreds of restaurant vouchers. Deals include 2-for-1 mains or 50% off food at family-friendly restaurants such as Pizza Express, Giraffe, ASK and Gourmet Burger Kitchen.

Just download the voucher, print it out and take it with you to save.  You can find all these offers and lots more at VoucherCodes.co.uk’s printable restaurant vouchers page.

What you might not realise is that if you stick to main courses and don’t order expensive drinks, 2-for-1 deals can be cheaper than eating at home as they work out to as little as £4 a head.

It's funny how few years ago i was rarely considering discounts as a main decision factor whenever i was out on shopping. These days though, most of my shopping list is based on it. I guess the recession brought something good too, the retailers can't afford to loose me as a customer so there are plenty discount offers to pick from. Usually though, i prefer using an easy saver program, which is even greater since it allows me to get discounts on most things i buy.

Welcome to Mums in Science

This site has been designed as a portal for busy mums who work or have worked in science.

Too many women leave science due to the constraints of motherhood. Some struggle, and work part time, at the expense of advancing their career. Others change their career to fit in with their children, whilst working within some area of science.

Our aims are :-

  • to create a community to provide mutual support,
  • to provide information to those who have the challenge of bringing up children and maintaining a career in science, whether full or part time, or outside mainstream science.

This site is updated regularly with new articles and occasional special offers. Everything is accessible on the site. However, if you would like to receive notices of new additions to the site you can subscribe to the site and receive e-mails as soon as a new article is posted to your selected categories or to all the site.

We welcome comments about MumsinScience, what you like, what you don't like, or how we can improve.

PLEASE LET US KNOW, just email comments@mumsinscience.net
