Science, Technology & Society to be theme for Commonwealth Day 2010 Held on Monday 8th March this year, the aim of Commonwealth Day is to promote understanding on global issues, international co-operation and the work of the Commonwealth to improve the lives of its 2 billion citizens. Every year a theme is chosen for the Day that has a particular resonance with the modern Commonwealth and which informs HM The Queen's Commonwealth Day Observance at Westminster Abbey, her annual message to the Commonwealth, and the many activities planned throughout the year in London and around the Commonwealth. Science and technology are crucial elements in moving forward governance and economic and human development. In today's world they underpin communication, commerce, arts & culture, health, wealth and human rights. Around the Commonwealth there are many examples of scientists playing a crucial role in society, whether working on malaria prevention, combating climate change or developing renewable sources of energy.
